The teens I see in my practice struggle for acceptance and recognition with peers, family and society all presenting differing expectations. The stress at times may lead to teenage depression, anxiety and destructive behaviors such as drug abuse, cutting and suicidal ideations.
As a parent watching your teenager figure out life and create who he or she want to be presents its own stress and challenges, overwhelming parent and families. They are making choices that will directly affect the rest of their lives. As I’m given permission, I believe that working with the family as I work with the adolescent is crucial. Providing individual and family therapy facilitates understanding and provides a foundation allowing family members to work with each other.
